IAS officer complains against Bharadwaj, AAP denies charges

The capital witnessed yet another tussle between the AAP-Delhi government and the bureaucracy Friday. This time, IAS officer Kinny Singh has accused Services Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj of inappropriate conduct in a formal manner, which the AAP sought to dispel as a means to save herself from potential disciplinary proceedings.

Singh, a 2014 batch AGMUT officer posted in the Services Department as Special Secretary, was among the eight all-India service officials to have levelled harassment allegations against Bharadwaj last week. “I would like to submit that we are completely intimidated by the behaviour of Hon’ble Minister,” she wrote in her complaint to Chief Secretary Naresh Kumar in relation to an incident that allegedly unfolded in Bharadwaj’s official chambers on May 16.

She accused Bharadwaj, along with two of her colleagues, of intimidation, threats and forcibly signing a false written statement. “… in light of the incident, it is requested that adequate security should be provided to the undersigned…,” she alleged.

While Bharadwaj did not respond to the claims, AAP termed Singh’s allegations “completely false”. “Officers are being forced to make complaints against their ministers… Bharadwaj is a very decent person… The day services comes under us, the same officers could be made to make complaints against CS, LG and BJP politicians but we won’t do such cheap politics,” it stated.

Government sources claim-ed Singh had been served a show cause notice to explain her conduct “including dereliction of duty, insubordination and providing unauthorised possession of sensitive files” to a fellow bureaucrat despite directions not to.
